Dear Sun-Stat FIBC User:
As part of Greif’s efforts to integrate its flexible packaging businesses, we are conducting tests to ensure that our products meet the industry’s most stringent standards for quality and safety – that’s The Greif Way.
The Sun-Stat Type D FIBC, the Sunjüt-developed and tested FIBC that was brought to Greif when we acquired the company, is one of the products on which we have recently performed tests. While Sun-Stat has a flawless record of safe performance in the field, recent tests on this product are not passing the rigorous IEC 61340-4-4: 2005 standard for ungrounded Type D bags. Given our commitment to complying with the highest industry standards and out of an abundance of caution, for the time-being, we have stopped producing and selling the Sun-Stat FIBC.
However, an initial third-party test, conducted this week, indicated that the Sun-Stat FIBCs can be safely filled and discharged when properly grounded. We are now conducting further tests in the coming days to complete the assessment.
Users of Sun-Stat FIBCs should realize that the Sun-Stat FIBC poses no safety risks when stored.
We ask that Sun-Stat FIBCs users who received containers between September 28, 2008 and September 28, 2011 take the following steps:
1. Please forward this warning statement to all users of Sun-Stat FIBCs known to you.
2. Users of Sun-Stat FIBCs should immediately stop filling product into or discharging product from ungrounded Sun-Stat FIBCs.
3. Based on preliminary third-party test results, we expect that users of Sun-Stat FIBCs will be able to safely fill product into and discharge product from properly grounded Sun-Stat FIBCs. However, it’s important for us to complete the comprehensive assessment before issuing a definitive statement early next week.
4. For users of Sun-Stat FIBCs that do not have the ability to properly ground the FIBCs for filling or discharging, Greif will provide guidance early next week.
You likely have other questions, and we’re actively compiling information so that we can respond to your inquiries within the next few days as accurately and comprehensively as possible. We are providing this warning statement now, because safety and compliance are our top priorities.
We recognize that this situation may cause inconvenience for you and your customers. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Sincerely,
Michael Mapes
