AkzoNobel is a Fortune Global 500 company and is listed on the Euronext Amsterdam stock exchange.  The company is also the Chemicals industry leader on the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes and is included on the FTSE4Good Index.

Based in the Netherlands, we are a multicultural organisation serving customers throughout the world with coatings and chemicals products. 

We employ around 43,000 people and conduct our activities in these two segments, with operating subsidiaries in more than 80 countries.

AkzoNobel is the world's largest coatings manufacturer and hlds leading positions in most of its businesses.

The company develops, manufactures, and markets innovative, high quality products and services for nearly all markets. 

The portfolio includes decorative paints; products for industrial applications including powder and specialty coatings; car refinishes; marine, protective and aerospace coatings; and coatings-related products such as wood and building adhesives

 

 

AkzoNobel Industiral Activities comprises the company's Industrial finishes and Powder Coatings businesses.  The former focuses on the development, marketing, and manufacturing of factory applied wood, coil, and plastic coatings, and industrial wood adhesives.  The latter is the largest global manufacturer of powder coatings, with products being supplied to eight key market sectors.

 

Key Dates in History of AkzoNobel and Powder Coatings:

1777 Sadolin in Denmark founded.
1792 Sikkens (Netherlands) and Bemberg (Germany) established.
1929 Vereinigte Glanzstoff and Enka amalgamated to form AKU.
1967 Koninklijke Zout Organon formed from a series of mergers.
1969 Koninklijke Zout Organon and AKU merge to form Akzo.
1984 Nobel Industries forms through a merger of KemaNobel and Bofors.
1982   Akzo starts to manufacture powder coatings.
1988   Akzo buys powder business from DSM (including plants in France, Italy and Germany) in swap deal invloving sale of the Akzo powder resins business to DSM.
1990   Restructuring of Nobel Industries under Securum.
1994   Akzo and Nobel Industries merge to form AkzoNobel.
1995   Powder plant built in Sweden.
1996   Second JV formed in China - with powder plant in Hangzhou.
1998   Akzo Nobel acquires UK company Courtaulds, including its global Interpon business.
2007   AkzoNobel sells Organon BioSciences NV to Shering-Plough Corporation.
2008   AkzoNobel acquires Imperial Chemical Industries PLC (ICI).
