Museum of Islamic Art, Doha

The multi-decorated architect, I.M Pei, was tempted out of retirement (he was 91 by the end) to design this building, such was the lure of an opportunity to create an iconic 21^st – century building for an oil-rich state that did not fall into the bling-bling, Vegas –style mould of much contemporary Middle Eastern architecture.
