There are very few buildings to have sparked the public’s imagination in recent times quite like The Shard. It has already entered the pantheon of iconic design. The 72-storey skyscraper is the tallest building in Western Europe, a vertical village that dominates the London Skyline and has become a top London tourist attraction. The famous architect Renzo Piano wanted the building to be a shard of crystal with a presence of light that would almost taper to nothing.
