Interpon's partnership with Innocoat

Innocoat drives quality in architectural coatings market with Interpon powder coatings

A coatings business that stands out in India’s highly specialised, quality-driven architectural segment is Bangalore-based Innocoat Systems. Helping to give Innocoat its competitive edge, and retain its market leading position in surface finishing, are Interpon D powder coatings from AkzoNobel. They not only deliver consistent quality and outstanding performance, but also, crucially, support a more sustainable agenda – an agenda that is growing in importance.

Founded in 2007 in the industrial region of Peenya, Karnataka, Innocoat operates three coating facilities specializing in warranty-grade powder coatings—one located in Peenya and two in Kunigal.

The business collaborates with architects, consultants and engineers to supply coatings for IT Tech Parks, airports, retail, real estate, commercial, and international convention center projects. Operating multiple lines and collectively consuming 225 MT of powder coatings annually, it coats over 1,000 tonnes of aluminum each month. This capacity allows Innocoat to meet the demand for both volume and versatility, helping its clients create stylish, durable facades, windows, and interiors.

Innocoat’s ‘go to’ choice of powder coating is the Interpon D2525 series, especially given its proven sustainability credentials. Being superdurable, it protects surfaces for longer, meaning that fewer resources are required for replacements. Surfaces also require cleaning less frequently, so that fewer chemicals are needed, and water is saved. It contains no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and is backed by an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). This means the raw materials, manufacture and transportation associated with Interpon D2525 have been assessed by an independent third-party for transparent sustainability credentials.

Especially popular amongst Innocoat’s customers are the innovative Interpon D bonded metallic, STF that gives surfaces the look of wood with the durability of metal and Anodic ranges. AkzoNobel’s sophisticated bonding technology is used to provide a consistency of natural metallic finish, lustre and shine not possible using dry blending methods. Both provide excellent resistance to scratches, UV, and the effects of the weather.

Dilip Kumar, Managing Director of Innocoat, says that such innovations are vital to their business: “We continuously explore new technologies, sustainable processes and advanced solutions to enhance quality, efficiency and environmental performance. Innovations delivered through the partnership with AkzoNobel Powder Coatings allow us to deliver added value and remain competitive in an increasingly demanding industry. Their technical team is invaluable, offering on-site support and helping us optimize our coating processes.”

More recently, Innocoat has started using the hyperdurable Interpon D3020 series, designed to meet the most demanding architectural specifications, such as those found in extremely hot climates and coastal environments. To that end, Innocoat became the first coater in India to be accredited with Intrerpon D’s Approved Applicator D3020 certification, and Mohan Dhandapani, General Manager of Innocoat, says this helps the business to further differentiate itself by offering extended warranties on performance:

“The accreditation gives us a competitive advantage, as it provides another layer of confidence in the quality and performance that our coatings will provide. The D3020 range delivers maximum gloss and color retention, even in the harshest environments, and in just one coat. It is a viable alternative to liquid PVDF2 systems and is significantly more sustainable.”

“Sustainability is incredibly important in India, even more so in recent years following multiple climate crises, so our customers are looking to us to support them with new technologies that not only answer their performance needs but also prioritize the environment.”

Şirvan Canıtez, Commercial Director South Asia, AkzoNobel Powder Coatings says its partnership with Innocoat benefits from a collaborative approach:

“We work together to ensure that the technical expertise across both companies is realised by Innocoat customers. We appreciate Innocoat’s deep understanding of India’s architectural market and it is our joint responsibility to ensure that we continually innovate to find the best solutions to market challenges and requirements.”
