Interpon's partnership with PowderTek

PowderTek turns architects’ dreams into reality with on-trend colors from Interpon

Architects in Northern India looking for the latest colors and trends to bring their creations to life are working closely with PowderTek, the region’s leading architectural powder coater, to help express their creativity.

And PowderTek is in turn partnering with AkzoNobel to deliver the quality, colors, textures and special effects through its architectural Interpon D range of powder coatings to protect and enhance many of the high-profile structures, buildings and homes that its architectural customers design, with the warranties that help turn their dreams into reality.

PowderTek is a second-generation family business founded in 1988 and now managed by Kshitij Anand – a CEO & Director with an innovative mindset. It has carved a reputation for the quality of its aluminum facades, windows, doors and similar architectural products that feature in many splendid Bollywood star bungalows and other structures throughout the region.

For the last seven years, these products have all been exclusively coated with Interpon D, the two organizations aligned on demonstrating how PowderTek’s creations adhere to the most rigorous global standards demanded by AkzoNobel, and the critical importance of partnership in maintaining the highest levels of excellence.

Color has always been important, and so too the finish. Warranties are similarly critical, and a key point of differentiation, giving architects the guarantee that their creations will stand the test of time, and protect their reputation.

“I travel across the world and particularly in Europe to identify the latest colors and trends,” Kshitij explains, “and then work with the experts at AkzoNobel to match them and produce our own color cards. Rather than sending out panels, architects can come and see what their designs will look like at our Interpon-styled color studio which we created with the support of the local AkzoNobel team and opened in March 2023.”

Using the full range of Interpon D powder coatings – including but not limited to Futura, Anodic, Stone Effect, and STF (which can give surfaces a warm, natural wood-like finish) is giving PowderTek a competitive advantage; by working in partnership with AkzoNobel, and proactively seeking out the latest colors and trends, Kshitij is giving the architectural community products that they simply cannot get elsewhere.

PowderTek is also a particular champion of AkzoNobel’s bonded metallic powder coatings for a stable metallic effect which are further transforming the products it can create for its customers. With AkzoNobel’s special bonding techniques, the Interpon team can significantly improve the luster and finish of its premium special effect metallic powder coatings to deliver a uniform metallic finish with even greater color consistency and performance. Two colors that are especially trending at present are Steel Bronze and Golden Beach.

With approximately 150 people across two units, one in Haryana and one in New Delhi, PowderTek is working to near full capacity to keep up with demand. In New Delhi it has five manual lines and 2 sublimation lines with an output of five metric tonnes per day to cater for predominantly smaller coating jobs. In Haryana it has one automatic line and three manual lines with an output of 20 metric tonnes per day. Powdertek  has two advanced sublimation lines in the New Delhi facility and uses 100% Interpon D STF powder and basecoat – a first for the region.

Consistency in color, quality and performance is an important attribute and one in which the Interpon Technical Services team plays a key role: “Every month we have a visit from AkzoNobel who conduct a Temperature Travel Report (TTR) and audit our plants,” Kshitij continues.

“It’s a team effort and a genuine partnership: we are expert coaters; they are experts in powder. If we are using a new shade, then the Technical Services team will help us stabilise the use of that shade on the line. If the temperature isn’t consistent in the oven, then the variation in shade becomes more prominent. They give us the guidance and we follow the steps.”

Sustainability is similarly important. As the name suggests, PowderTek only works with powder, and recognises how the new generation of metallic effects is reducing the use of liquid coatings, and how PowderTek is therefore playing its part in creating a more sustainable environment. Using Interpon D powder coatings also supports a more sustainable operation they are completely free of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and any overspray can be captured and reused.

Since working with AkzoNobel in the architectural segment, PowderTek has grown its operations by a factor of three and expects to double in size over the next 12 months as demand for its products increases and a new plant comes on stream: “We have all of the technical support, the products and the warranties that architects are looking for and this gives us the competitive advantage,” Kshitij concludes.

“With AkzoNobel as our partner, and their commitment to working only with the best, we are excited about how they can help us in becoming the biggest brand across the whole country.”
